Med School Interview Tips

For year 13s hoping to study medicine, or students on a gap year, you may find that now is a critical and stressful time. All of you will have overcome the UCAT, submitted applications to UCAS, and now, it may seem tempting to take a break. However, you must persevere in the marathon that is applying to medicine. Interviews can take place any time from now until March/April, but it’s important that you start interview preparation from now, and not when you receive an interview offer.  Interview preparation is an accumulative process that cannot be crammed in the night before. The purpose of an interview is to illustrate to the university who you are outside of academics, and to show that you have the values and ethics of a medical student, and future doctor.  Part of being a medical student is all about learning, there will always be something new to learn about, and this is something worth starting to get accustomed to. Avoid thinking about interview preparation as a chore an...

A Blue Muslim

Human beings are social by nature. We have many methods of expression, not just in speech but through our facial expressions, our hand gestures, our body language and much more. It is clear we are built to be able to communicate complex information, not just about our surroundings but our ‘self’ too. But things don’t always pan out that way.  Loneliness is complex and often misperceived as self-inflicted, and to only affect those who don’t talk to others much, or perhaps the opposite: social interaction is only important to those who have a lot of it. But what socialising and friends I had was important and enough; that alone didn’t make me ‘lonely’. On the opposite end, a person can have many friends and still experience loneliness.  Regardless of being an extrovert or an introvert, we are all susceptible to loneliness. Some burdens we feel as if we must face alo...

UBISOC x IMed Charity Week 2025

Image
Asalamu Alaikum! On the 21st of October, the University of Birmingham campus saw the beginning of the annual UBISOC x IMed Charity Week! This featured exciting events, warm socials, and Donuts & Samosas. Here’s a summary of some of our favourite events these past couple of weeks. Kick it for a Cause The football tournament was an incredible experience. The tournament brought together brothers from across the community for a day full of excitement, competition, and unity - all for a great cause. The atmosphere was amazing, with teams giving their all and supporters bringing great energy. Between matches, everyone enjoyed good food, conversations, and influencers who came to show support. What stood out most to me was the brotherhood - seeing everyone come together not just for football, but to make a real difference. Alhamdulillah, it was a day that perfectly captured the spirit of community and charity. Food Festival Walking through campus on Thursday and Friday, it would have been...
