Discover Islam Week (DIW) 2026!
This year’s Discover Islam Week was truly one of the highlights of the year!
For those who don’t know, Discover Islam Week (also known as DIW) is an annual campaign run by the Islamic Society. This campaign aims to show people the true face of Islam and invite them to learn more about our faith. The beauty of this week is that there’s something for everyone, whether Muslim or non-Muslim.
DIW is broken down into 4 days: The Path of Truth, The Path of Justice, The Path of Identity and The Path of Revelation. Each day had a different focus, which were: Islam as the true path, activism, culture and the Quran.
Though each day had its own appeal, my favourite was The Path of Identity, also known as Culture Day- I may, however, be biased as I was one of the organisers… It was a day that truly felt like the Muslim community on campus came together. People could come in wearing cultural clothing, try food from around the world, and visit stalls aimed at teaching the history of Islam as it spread to different countries, including Pakistan, Yemen and even Spain!
This is not to say that the other days were any less enjoyable. Day 1 brought a really wholesome start to the week. Day 2, we got to see lots of people show solidarity with Palestine by wearing kuffiyehs. Day 4 was a perfect end with a Quran competition and Qiyaam Al Layl prayer at the end. Of course, we also had to show appreciation to our volunteers, without whom the week would not have been possible.
Finally, as a dawah-focused campaign, I have to mention the revert stories this week saw. On day 1, we were visited by a couple who, Alhamdulillah, took their shahadahs in the same week! Not only that, but they also got married, Alhamdulillah. It’s so heartwarming to think that members of our community inspired and facilitated these steps for them, and may Allah (SWT) reward them immensely.
Overall, DIW 2026 delivered the most wholesome week of the year. Though only consisting of 4 days, there’s no doubt that many attendees made countless memories and left with greater knowledge and appreciation for Islam than they had before. We hope to see you there next year as well!
