UBISOC x IMed Charity Week 2025
Asalamu Alaikum! On the 21st of October, the University of Birmingham campus saw the beginning of the annual UBISOC x IMed Charity Week! This featured exciting events, warm socials, and Donuts & Samosas. Here’s a summary of some of our favourite events these past couple of weeks.
Kick it for a Cause
The football tournament was an incredible experience. The tournament brought together brothers from across the community for a day full of excitement, competition, and unity - all for a great cause. The atmosphere was amazing, with teams giving their all and supporters bringing great energy. Between matches, everyone enjoyed good food, conversations, and influencers who came to show support. What stood out most to me was the brotherhood - seeing everyone come together not just for football, but to make a real difference. Alhamdulillah, it was a day that perfectly captured the spirit of community and charity.
Food Festival
Walking through campus on Thursday and Friday, it would have been hard to miss the transformation of the University Plaza. Under marquees, we sold cakes, bakes, matcha, tacos, burgers, jewellery, perfume, books- and that’s not all, societies of different countries came together for a diverse display of culture, from Somalia to Sudan to Bangladesh.
The day didn’t go without a few hiccups and airborne marquees, but alhamdulillah we were able to mostly sell out. Funds were raised for orphan care - to uplift them and provide them with the food, shelter and tools to rebuild and look forward to a brighter future.

Charity Dinner
Our annual Charity Dinner began with a powerful reminder from Ibraheem Hussein, telling us that Charity Week is just the beginning, reminding us that we should continue the efforts we displayed during Charity Week, and to keep Allah and the ummah as our priority. This was followed by inspiring talks from guest speakers Ali Budhwani and Hamda Mohamed about the importance of contributing to the Muslim community in university.
After a delicious meal came the main event:, the Charity Auction. Prize items were up for grabs, including a calligraphy canvas, a miniature G-Wagon, and a signed Mo Salah football shirt!

A Trek up Snowdon
Saving the best till last, early on Sunday morning, 3rd of November, we set off from the north gate for Mount Snowdown. After arriving and a quick briefing by our guide, Mahruf, we began the hike at 10:00 am. It wasn’t easy, but alhamdulillah the weather was good, and with a couple much-needed rest stops, 140/155 of us made it to the peak!
The highlight of the day was definitely the walk back down. The views left me speechless; the towering peaks supported the azure sky above us, their sides were covered with red bracken, descending down into valleys split by silver streams. It would be impossible to put the beauty and grandeur of Allah’s creation into words. Unfortunately, we eventually had to leave, ending off charity week with a well-deserved rest.

Charity to a Muslim
I have not yet received a final figure for the total raised... But is the amount raised truly a valid measure of success when it comes to charity? For a Muslim, charity goes beyond a simple transaction. To donate humbly and in secret, to donate without hesitation, to donate to benefit and support those in need for the sake of Allah, these are beloved forms of worship and will weigh heavy on your scales on the day of judgement insha’allah. May Allah make us among those who donate with an open hand and a pure heart and may Allah reward all your sadaqah and good deeds these past weeks. Barakallahu feekum.
